The original newspaper for sale is The Daily Union - City Of Washington, Thursday Morning, April 12, 1849. The paper is four sides. Some of the interesting articles are: A gold mine in Mexico - Articles relating to President Polk and to General Z. Taylor and his new cabinet - Several letters from future President James Buchanan - News from the California gold fields - The Western route to California - Wreck of a Cape May (NJ) boat with all lost - Corpus Christi route to California, along with other articles, many political and more pieces relating to Polk and Taylor. There is also a variety of advertisements including a reward for a run away slave. The paper is in relatively good condition with two vertical splits along the center fold. The paper is somewhat fragile. Still very readable. The pages measure 23 1/4" x 18 5/8". A nice gold rush era, Washington DC paper.
