The image number \'07\' is visible on a wooden structure in the foreground, suggesting this was part of a numbered series documenting earthquake damage. Copyrighted in 1906 by the American Journal Examiner, this postcard was distributed as a complimentary insert by the N.Y. Sunday American & Journal, a Hearst newspaper publication, making it both a postal artifact and a piece of newspaper promotional history. It is an undivided back example, consistent with the pre-1907 era, with postage instructions noting 1 cent domestic and 2 cents abroad. The address side is entirely unused and clean.
