This is a rare Spanish made statue of the Italian saint: Rosalia. She is a molded figure made of what is called wood paste/composition material that is fairly durable and painted with acrylic paints. Her eyes are made of glass which is a very special feature of Spanish religious statues. Her halo is made of gold colored metal as well as her cross that she is holding.St. Rosalia measures a little over 14\" tall, 3 3/4\" wide and 3 3/4 deep. She is shown in a robe of drab brown cloth as she was a virgin-hermit and did not want to wear beautiful clothing since she wanted to remain unencumbered by worldly things that would draw her away from her modest and God-focused life. She lived in a cave on Mt. Pellegrino where she died alone in 1160.St. Rosalia, a 12th century saint, is the patron saint of Palermo, Sicily and is invoked for protection against plagues and infectious diseases.
