STS-3 Columbia Lousma Middeck Inflight 1982 - Original NASA Photo:
$35.00

An original 10x8" vintage photo from a very large collection of fascinating and rare original NASA press photographs that originated from a NASA employee in the photo lab or press office at the Lyndon B. Johnson Space Center. A number of the images from this collection appear to be one of a kind or used internally only. This is an original print on Kodak paper. Professionally packaged in a rigid mailer for safe delivery.

Photo Overview

Commander Jack R. Lousma floats comfortably inside the middeck of Space Shuttle Columbia during mission STS-3, holding a drink dispenser while pointing to a clipboard of orbital checklists. The white lockers, experiment bags and control panels of the orbiter’s crew compartment frame this relaxed in-flight portrait, and the STS-3 mission patch and NASA “worm” logo are clearly visible on his light-blue flight suit. The original NASA photo number S82-28912 printed in the border dates the scene to March 1982, only the third flight of the Space Shuttle program.

STS-3 was the first long-duration shuttle test flight, lasting eight days and paving the way for routine orbital operations; Lousma, a veteran of Skylab 3, and pilot C. Gordon Fullerton were its only crew. Tasks on this mission included thermal-blanket evaluations, Canadarm exercises and Earth-observation photography—crucial steps toward certifying the shuttle for satellite deployment and scientific research. Own a vivid piece of early shuttle history before another collector snaps it up.
