Royal Worcester porcelain egg coddler in the Strawberry Fair pattern, single egg size, complete with its original screw-on chrome lid and loop ring.
The coddler has a rounded cup form on a short pedestal foot in bright white porcelain. One side shows a large butterfly with white wings finely veined in black, the forewing tips shaded in golden yellow and orange and edged in dark brown, the wing edges finished with black scallops, and a black body with long curving antennae. The other side shows a wild strawberry vine: a broad serrated leaf in soft blue, sage, olive, and slate tones, a ripe red strawberry with a green calyx, a white five petal blossom with a pink center on a slender brown stem, and narrow olive green leaves. The polished chrome lid is double banded and threads onto the porcelain rim, topped with a wire loop ring for lifting from the water.
Backstamp printed in black on the base: \"ROYAL WORCESTER\" arched above a circle enclosing a script W monogram with ® at lower right, with \"PORCELAIN\" arched below and \"MADE IN ENGLAND\" beneath.
Approximately 3 3/4 inches tall to the top of the ring, approximately 2 7/8 inches tall to the top of the lid, and approximately 2 1/4 inches in diameter.
Strawberry Fair is one of the most charming Royal Worcester coddler designs, pairing a botanical strawberry vine with a butterfly on the reverse. Use it for a single coddled egg in a pan of simmering water, or display it on a kitchen shelf or in a cabinet with either side facing out.
CONDITION
Pre-owned, excellent condition. No chips, cracks, or repairs found. The butterfly and strawberry decoration are bright and complete with no visible fading or loss. There is one tiny dark speck in the glaze to the left of the butterfly. The unglazed foot ring on the base shows light grey marks from shelf contact. The chrome lid shows light surface marks from handling. The lid threads on securely. Please review all photos carefully, they are part of the description and show exact condition.
