Made by Royal Doulton in England. The lot of consists of 4mugs, of two characters, famous from London folklore: ‘Arry (Harry) and ‘Arriet(Harriet) which represent traditional London street vendors or costermongers.Both characters were originally designed by the prolific Doulton modeler HarryFenton and introduced 1946-1947.
Harriet is recognizable by her vibrant green feathered capand orange/brown clothes, Harry is sporting a brown cap, a cigarette and a vibrantred and yellow neckerchief.
The first “Harriet” mug is small at 3.25 inches tall, andmarked “COPR 1946” the copyright year when royal Doulton officially registeredthe design. In addition, listed are several design registrations (Rd No 847682,Rd No 23908, Rd No 132/46). This extensive regulatory text is a classichallmark of early production runs. See pictures
