Authentic Hand-Signed Autograph Card – Rear Admiral Frederick V. McNair, USN
This listing is for an original, hand-signed autograph card of Rear Admiral Frederick Vallette McNair (1839–1900). McNair was a distinguished officer in the United States Navy who served during the American Civil War and later became the Superintendent of the United States Naval Academy.
Key Highlights:
• Military Career: McNair served under Admiral Farragut during the Civil War and rose through the ranks to become a Rear Admiral.
• Medal of Honor: He was a recipient of the Medal of Honor for his actions during the Veracruz expedition (though the card itself likely dates to his later career as Rear Admiral).
• Inscription: The card is clearly signed "F.V. McNair, Rear Admiral, U.S. Navy".
• Provenance Note: There is a light pencil notation at the top left: "Annap. Supt 1898-1900", referencing his tenure as the Superintendent of the Naval Academy at Annapolis.
Condition Report:
• Clarity: The signature is exceptionally bold and clear, written in black ink.
• Paper Condition: The card is in excellent vintage condition with minimal toning. The edges are crisp, and the reverse is blank.
• Dimensions: Standard collector's autograph card size (approx. 3" x 2").
A superb addition for collectors of US Naval history, Civil War era officers, or Medal of Honor recipients.
