This Original WWII German Correspondence Letter is stamped for 12/4/35 at the growing height of \"The German Painters\" power, 2 years into when he was authorized into the German Government as their Fuhrer
The letter (from what I can translate) is the following...
\"Dear Mrs. Arnold,
Since I received your dear address today, I have to write you a letter right away. We are doing quite well. Hopefully you are doing well too.
We have moved, and now we have a cow, a horse and two sheep.
We have snowy weather here today; it is snowing like crazy.
Is your husband already home? My brother hasn\'t come either; we don\'t know anything at all about him.
Have you received any news from your husband yet?
We now live in Ermsleben. At first we lived in Pansfelde.
If your husband is at home, ask him sometime if he would look in Berlin at the refugee tracing/search office to see whether my grandfather Johann Heller is listed there.
And my grandmother Marie Heller and my aunt Marie Heller. They have become separated from us / gone missing from us in the district of Calau.
Their dates of birth are:
- Father, 11 December 1865
- Mother, 21 May 1867
- Sister, 21 January 1890
Please give your son our greetings as well.
And when you receive this letter, please answer us soon.\"
In March 1935, the German government renamed its genealogical authority the Reichsstelle für Sippenforschung. That office became increasingly important because people were required to prove their ancestry under the racial laws, including the newly enacted Nuremberg Laws.
This letter is therefore sitting in a very interesting historical window:
1933 — Facism takes power
↓
1935 — Nuremberg Laws
↓
December 1935 — This letter
↓
1938 — Kristallnacht
↓
1939 — WWII begins
↓
1941 onward — mass deportations and systematic extermination
Making this a document and topic from a period when German racial policy was already dramatically changing German society as mentioned in this letter due to the mentioned disappearances
