Vintage S.A. Wetterlings double-bit axe made in Sweden, marked with the intertwined SAW logo and “SWEDEN” stamp. The head also carries a 4 lb weight marking.
This is a compact double-bit axe with a 9.5” head and 4 5/8” cutting edges, giving it a smaller cruiser/boys-axe size compared with a full-length felling axe.
The axe is fitted with an older Vaughan & Bushnell double-bit hickory replacement handle. The partially intact paper label is marked with Hebron, Illinois. The handle has an attractive aged appearance with darkened patina and wear that complements the vintage head well.
Based on the SAW marking and overall construction, the axe head is consistent with mid-20th-century Wetterlings production.

CONDITION
Vintage used condition with normal age and use wear. Axe head has surface oxidation, discoloration, scratches, small marks, and evidence of prior sharpening and use.
Older Vaughan & Bushnell hickory handle shows age, scratches, darkening, and general wear, with a partially intact original paper label still present. The handle has a very nice vintage appearance.
