Pictured here is an extremely rare grill for a 1937 Chrysler Imperial Airflow luxury sedan OR coupe. This has all 25 bars and perimeter trim AS WELL AS the adjacent front panel assembly; early style! You could look for years to find this piece and come up empty-handed. Here is your chance to own this amazing piece of history and, if you own the whole car, you already own rare-air history.
In 1937, there were way less than 5,000 of these cars made before the Airflow was discontinued altogether, so this piece would look great on a wall as well, or as a decorator piece. It is rumoured that Ferdinand Porsche imported an early Airflow coupe into Germany, and using this model for "inspiration,” designed the first Volkswagen Beetle. The similarities between early Volkswagen Beetles and the Airflow coupes could be a testimony to this school of thought. You decide. If you Google the car, you’ll note that the styling is exactly the same as the car depicted in Action Comics #1, the one over Superman’s head.
The grille is useable as is or can easily be restored. There is no rust on this at all, only dirt. See pictures. This has been in the arid Southwest for AT LEAST five decades. Very straight given it’s age. I’m listing this at the price listed, but I will entertain any and all offers. On the one hand, I have this low-supply piece, knowing that this is extremely rare. On the other hand, I need to sell it and I’m motivated to accept a good reasonable offer, since this is probably low demand as well. I don’t know how much this will sell for, but that’s why the offer button is active for this listing. Let’s talk. Help me decide what this is worth.
