Von der Linde became famous during the opening campaign of World War I for his role in the capture of Fort Malonne near Namur, Belgium, on August 24, 1914. He was subsequently awarded the Pour le Mérite for the action.
This handsome photographic portrait shows the young lieutenant in Imperial German officer's uniform, posed holding his peaked cap. The front is prominently printed “Leutnant von der Linde.”
At lower left the photograph is identified:
“Original-Aufnahme W. Höffert, Potsdam”
The lower right carries the FOW Berlin W.35 publisher/series marking and No. 557.
The reverse is unused and contains faint later pencil collector annotations referencing the officer and Namur.
An attractive named and historically identifiable WWI military portrait with strong appeal to collectors of Imperial Germany, Pour le Mérite/Blue Max recipients, Namur and Fort Malonne history, German officers, WWI militaria, and military RPPCs.
Condition: Very good vintage condition with light age toning and minor handling/edge wear. Pencil annotations on reverse. Please examine the photographs carefully for exact condition.
