Up for sale is a beautiful, highly collectible Antique Hinged Cast Iron Pleating / Fluting Sad Iron. This unique Victorian-era laundry tool features an upper body that hinges/lifts upward to reveal specialized interior grooved fluting plates used to crimp crisp ruffles and pleats into clothing fabrics.
The top of the iron is clearly stamped with the original historical patent inscription reading: \"PAT\'D ... AUG 2\" (Patent Date August 2, 1870).
Condition:
The iron is in good antique condition showing normal cosmetic wear, a dark aged patina, and light surface rust consistent with its 150+ year age. The metal casting is solid with no cracks, breaks, or structural repairs. The wooden-style contoured iron handle is tightly secured.
