Beautiful, heavy American heritage textile from the late 1920's - 1930's. This Depression-era scrap quilt is a wonderful piece of history, showcasing a vibrant design and charm. It was hand made using a generational scrap bag, combining a fantastic array of period fabrics.
The Backing is a major standout feature. It is made of a heavy, thick rust orange utility cotton featuring a black-lined floral border print dating from the late Victorian to early Edwardian era (circa 1890's - 1910's). It is still vibrant with just a few areas of fading.
This piece is entirely hand-quilted with fine, hand-guided stitching running across the blocks. It is heavy and thick, providing excellent structure.
The quilt shows wear consistent with age, with a few imperfections throughout. The quilts binding shows some fraying along the borders, but it is on the other side of the stitching so it does not effect the quilt. There are a few isolated tiny pinholes in a couple of the lighter squares. There is one specific red patterned square that is torn but it is intact. There is one torn/frayed area on the orange border. There is writing on one of the squares that is thought to be from a feedsack.
This quilt is absolutely perfect for a rustic farmhouse display, or historical textile collection.
It is from a non-smoking home and has not been around any animals.
