Scarce original 1954 program for “Grossinger Gaities of 1954,” a musical revue presented by the staff of the legendary Grossinger’s Catskill resort in New York.
The revue was written, produced and directed by Julie Karson, with choreography by Lucille and Tony and lyrics by Julie Karson and Carolyn Rudin. The cover additionally credits Eddie Ashman and his Grossinger Orchestra and thanks Karla Grossinger for her “kind inspiration and ideas.”
The interior contains an extensive cast listing and program for the revue, including musical, dance and comedy numbers such as Jennie’s Hideaway, Love at First Bite, Juke Box Saturday Night, Romance at the Movies, Paris in Three Quarter Time and others.
Grossinger’s was one of the most celebrated resorts of New York’s Catskill Mountains and an important part of the mid-century Borscht Belt entertainment era. Programs such as this provide an unusual surviving record of the resort’s entertainment culture during its heyday.
An excellent piece of ephemera for collectors of Grossinger’s, Catskills/Borscht Belt history, Jewish-American resort history, vintage entertainment, nightclub and resort memorabilia, or 1950s theater programs.
Condition: Original vintage condition with noticeable age toning, edge discoloration, creasing/wrinkling and general handling/storage wear. Interior printing remains clear. Please see photographs for exact condition.
