SUPER RARE 1876-1880s Antique VICTOR Homer Laughlin Lidded Soup Tureen with matching under plate and ladle with Eagle-Over-Lion original Homer Laughlin backstamp! Anything of the Laughlin China Co. from the very early years is difficult to find at best, once-in-a-lifetime, if at all - this set qualifies as that latter - so collectors, who is going to snag this one of a kind set up? While the Victor line included dozens of pieces, this 4 piece largest soup tureen combo was uncommon even back in the day - especially with decal work. This is likely the only surviving complete set of this soup tureen with lid, under plate, and ladle - the Homer Laughlin museum doesn\'t even have a ladle example! Back in 1876 with the original selling list, this plain 4 piece set sold for $3.50...which if you account for inflation cost over $100 in today\'s world - this was a fancy set of pottery and especially with it\'s intricate decal work, makes it even rarer! Most Victor items were made in plain white-ware, so to have such a specialty piece with a cabin in the woods and yellow vine flowers made it a special order or even one-of-a-kind! This is an ultimate HLC collector piece and is truly a museum quality item - for the collector who has to have it all - this is the piece to add to your collection for sure!
The backstamp is the original Homer Laughlin backstamp: \'Eagle-over-Lion\' mark over Premium Stone China Homer Laughlin
The Victor shape was the first produced line by the Homer Laughlin China Company in the late 1870\'s and early 1880s. The ironstone line was usually marked with the eagle over lion backstamp shown which promotes ware as, \"Premium Stone China.\"Victor is a rare example of a shape with both table ware and toilet ware. The assortment becomes even more eclectic with leaf dishes, compotes and soap holders.There are two types of finials; the open, fluted style (which matches the handles) and the closed, ornate version. This set is quite large - measures approximately 15\" long, 10\" in height, and 9\" wide. It will be carefully packed, doubled boxed, and insured! Condition: Overall very good. It\'s an antique and has the expected under the glaze crazing, discoloration in spots, and wear. The soup tureen lid and base are chip free - incredible. The ladle and under plate have at least one chip - see pictures. Some of the crazing appears to be cracks, but are just the crazing. Truly, this set is in outstanding surviving condition for its 150 years of age.
