Item DescriptionA truly magnificent pair of tall Victorian mantle ewers. These feature the highly desirable Melon-Ribbed satin glass bodies, beautifully hand-painted with romantic pastoral scenes. The glass is mounted in ornate, heavy gilt metal (ormolu) frames featuring Lion’s heads on the spouts, handles, and bases.
These ewers represent the height of Gilded Age decor and were often used as flanking garnitures for a clock or mantel centerpiece. Their impressive 15.5" height gives them a commanding presence in any collection of Wave Crest or fine art glass.
Condition Details: Please Read & ZoomWe believe in full transparency for our collectors. This pair is over 120 years old and has the following noted:
Ewer 1: Displays beautifully. There is one small, tight hairline crack on the back of the glass body. It is a "feelable" crack but does not go through to the interior or affect the structural integrity.
Ewer 2: Excellent glass. There is some minor "gold loss" or thinning to the gilt finish on the lion-footed base, consistent with age and dusting over the years.
General: The hand-painted scenes are crisp and vibrant. No significant chips or repairs.
