An original photo of paratroopers with the 82nd Airborne loading up in front of a C-47,being helped with their loads and carrying rifles.with their gear on the ground. Troop Carrier Command flew the drop planes and gliders during WWII. The National Star Insignia on the side of the aircraft is the 1943 version, when the 82nd Airborne jumped into Sicily (July) and Salerno (September). This could be a photo before a training jump or the mission.
The photo comes from the estate of a Colonel (then Captain) of the 82nd Airborne. He jumped behind enemy lines in Italy and the Netherlands, and may have been a pathfinder on D Day. He won the Silver Star in Belgium for taking out machine gun nests.
Goodcondition as shown. Toned from age. Corner bumping and edge wear. This is an original Type 1 photo. Displays really well.
