US Army AEF WWI 1918 Canvas Gauntlet Mittens – Trigger Finger – Named. Finding original US Quartermaster issued gloves from the WWI in this condition is rare. They do show up both not that often....
Original WWI U.S. Army AEF canvas gauntlet-mittens with trigger finger, dated January 31, 1918. Remarkable condition for their age, retaining excellent flexibility and unusually supple canvas with tight, intact stitching throughout.
Each glove is stamped internally:
“UTTMER BROS – Contract [number illegible] – JAN 31, 1918 – SIZE 10 – NEW YORK DEPOT”Also present is an Army inspector's stamp, unfortunately illegible.
These gauntlet-mittens were issued for use by all branches and arms of the U.S. Army during WWI, by both officers and enlisted personnel. Their practical design made them particularly useful for AEF dispatch riders and motorcycle troops, truck drivers, military aviators/pilots, and machine-gunners, as well as other personnel exposed to cold and weather.
The gloves are individually named “Commings” in period ink, adding a desirable personal/provenance element to this original WWI AEF equipment.
A very nice, exceptionally well-preserved example of scarce and seldom-seen WWI American field equipment. Please email if you have any questions. offer with confidence-100% positive response since 1996. Thank you for looking.
