Original Antique Roly Poly Tobacco Tin Satisfied Customer Dixie Queen c1912 🔥:
$329.67

Original antique Roly Poly figural tobacco tin, the Satisfied Customer character, Dixie Queen Plug Cut brand, lithographed tin, made in the USA.

These one pound tobacco tins were made by the Tin Decorating Company (Tindeco) of Baltimore for the American Tobacco Company, in a series introduced around 1912.

The tins were marketed as Brownie tins, meant to be saved and reused once the tobacco was gone. Six characters were made: Mammy, Singing Waiter, Storekeeper, Dutchman, Satisfied Customer, and the Inspector from Scotland Yard.

The Satisfied Customer is generally considered one of the harder ones to find.

He is a stout pipe-smoking gent in a red coat, white vest with black tie, gold watch chain with a shark\'s tooth fob, and checkered trousers at the bottom.

The back shows a large Dixie Queen Plug Cut tobacco package with the Dixie Queen lady. The lower side shows his hand pulling a Dixie Queen pack from his coat pocket. The head lifts off as the lid. The bottom reads \"This Brownie tin comes in different designs, Get a Collection,\" with the brand slogan around it. The center carries the period federal tax notice marked Factory No. 2, District of Md., and Patent Applied For.

This is an original tin, not one of the 1979 Cheinco/Bristol Ware reproductions, which are marked as replicas on the bottom.

The exact year of manufacture is not known. A handwritten family note found inside the tin is included. It describes the tin as sent to a family member, with a date of 1920 or 1925 written with question marks.

Condition is honest antique condition with real damage, please review all photos. The head has a crease running across the crown and down the forehead, with lithograph loss to bare metal along it and scattered scuffs and chips.

The lower half of the body has several dents, and the bottom is pushed in with wear and scrapes to bare metal around the recessed base ring. There is a hairline scratch across the bottom text. The top rim of the body has small notches or splits at the edge. The red coat has scattered paint flecks and light scratches, mostly on the back and sides.

The vest stripes and face colors show fading consistent with age. The interior is plain tin with darkening, light spotting, and small rust specks. The colors on the front and the Dixie Queen package on the back still display well.

Included: the tin with its original head lid, and the handwritten family note.Ships in a new sturdy box with heavy-duty bubble wrap, with one business day handling time.

Please feel free to ask any questions you may have. I will often reply quickly, unless foraging for mushrooms :)

Thanks
