Death Valley National Park is located in the Mojave Desert of southern California just across the state line from Nevada. Holding the records among US National Parks as the hottest, driest, and lowest, it also plays host to Badwater Basin, the lowest point in North America at 282 feet below Sea Level. Death Valley is the fifth largest of the National Parks, coming in just slightly larger than the states of Delaware and Rhode Island combined. And interestingly enough, it is a mere 134 miles from Badwater Basin's lowest point to the top of Mount Whitney, the highest point in the lower 48 states at 14,505 feet above sea level.
