Vaughan (Saga, Y: The Last Man) and Tony Harris (Starman).
This massive, highly sought-after hardcover collection compiles issues #1–50 of the main series alongside Ex Machina Specials #1–4, delivering over 1,400 pages of gripping drama, intricate art, and brilliant storytelling in a single prestige format.
About the Story: The West Wing Meets Unbreakable
Set against the backdrop of a post-9/11 New York City, Ex Machina follows Mitchell Hundred, a former civil engineer who gains the extraordinary ability to communicate with and control machinery after a bizarre accident under the Brooklyn Bridge. Using his powers, he becomes the world’s first and only masked superhero: The Great Machine. But after the trauma of trying to maintain the status quo—including a fateful action on September 11th—Mitch hangs up his helmet and jetpack, enters the political arena, and is shockingly elected the Mayor of New York City.
The narrative brilliantly jumps back and forth between:
The Present: The grueling, deeply human, and often messy realities of municipal politics, bureaucratic compromise, and navigating real-world crises. The Past: Flashbacks detailing his mysterious origins, his tenure as a superhero, and a slow-burn conspiracy surrounding the device that changed his life.
Why It’s a Must-Have CollectibleElite Creative Team: Co-created by Brian K. Vaughan, one of the most celebrated and award-winning writers in modern comic book history (Y: The Last Man, Saga, Runaways), paired with Eisner Award-winning artist Tony Harris, whose distinct Art Deco-influenced, photo-referenced style gives the book a breathtaking, grounded aesthetic.
Eisner Award-Winning Pedigree: Widely regarded as one of the defining creator-owned mature reader series of the 2000s under DC’s WildStorm imprint, capturing the anxiety, shifting political landscapes, and cultural identity of post-9/11 America.
The Ultimate Collector's Format: Weighing in at over 1,400 pages, this massive omnibus format is the definitive way to own the complete saga. These comprehensive hardcovers are heavily targeted by collectors and graphic novel enthusiasts, often going out of print and commanding strong demand on the secondary market.
