This is an original aluminum transfer case lid and mounting fixture used by Thiokol Reaction Motors Division to ship TD-339 vernier engines for the NASA Surveyor lunar lander program. The engine ( see picture of example engine ) was hard-mounted to the upright bracket on this lid for transit from the manufacturer to JPL, with desiccant plugs installed on the propellant lines to protect the gold-plated plumbing and seals. The flat plate features the purpose-built clamping fixture with semi-circular cutouts, cross-bolts, and corner mounting blocks exactly as seen on surviving TD-339 shipping configurations. The fixture shows authentic period wear, handling marks, and residual sealant consistent with 1960s aerospace shipping hardware. No engine is included. This is a rare piece of Surveyor program ground-support equipment from the first American soft-landing missions to the Moon (1966–1968). Comes with case, lid screws, and interior engine mount. No other history is known at this time.
