You are looking at an extremely rare Montblanc Meisterstück Solitaire 2017 UNICEF Skeleton 149 Fountain Pen
This pen is used, in overall pretty good condition but does have scratches and wear, especially in the bottom section and the clip. It is accompanied by a Lacquer montblanc inner box (which has some scratches and a corner chipped off), a UNICEF brochure, and an unsigned/undated Montblanc warranty, no outer box is included.
The Montblanc Meisterstück 149 Skeleton UNICEF Fountain Pen is an extraordinary 2017 Special Edition combining Montblanc’s most iconic writing instrument with exceptional Artisan Atelier craftsmanship and a design celebrating literacy and education around the world.
Based on the legendary Meisterstück 149, this remarkable edition features a transparent blue precious-resin cap and barrel, inspired by UNICEF’s signature color. Surrounding the translucent resin is an intricately crafted platinum-coated three-dimensional skeleton overlay, individually milled to form six characters representing some of the first written symbols learned by children in different parts of the world: A from the Roman alphabet, 您 from Chinese, ا from Arabic, あ from Japanese, ㄱㅏ from Korean, and अ from Hindi.
The multilingual design draws inspiration from the Rosetta Stone, an enduring symbol of written language connecting different cultures and civilizations. Creating the skeleton requires an exceptionally meticulous process: a precious-metal tube is precisely turned and milled to form the three-dimensional calligraphy, then carefully polished by hand both inside and out, with each individual character receiving special attention from Montblanc's artisans.
The theme continues onto the striking mother-of-pearl and onyx cap top, where the characters appear alongside a 2.5 mm blue sapphire, symbolizing Montblanc's partnership with UNICEF. The traditional Montblanc emblem is beautifully integrated into this elaborate construction.
Completing the pen is an exceptional Au 750 / 18K gold nib, decorated with the same six international characters and a UNICEF-inspired olive branch rendered in contrasting yellow-gold detail. The pen uses Montblanc's classic piston-filling mechanism, maintaining the writing experience associated with the flagship Meisterstück 149.
Additional details include a platinum-coated clip with an individual serial number, polished precious-metal fittings, and the exceptional hand finishing associated with pieces produced through the Montblanc Artisan Atelier.
The Meisterstück for UNICEF collection was created as part of Montblanc's longstanding support of UNICEF and its efforts to improve children's access to quality primary education. In the Skeleton 149, that partnership resulted in far more than a commemorative writing instrument—it created an elaborate celebration of writing, language, education, and international understanding.
With its transparent blue construction, hand-finished three-dimensional skeleton work, precious materials, sapphire detail, and elaborate 18K gold nib, the 2017 Montblanc Meisterstück 149 Skeleton UNICEF stands among the most distinctive interpretations of the legendary Meisterstück 149 and is an exceptional piece for the serious Montblanc collector.
