This heavy, hand-carved alabaster ashtray originates from the historic stone-working region of Volterra, Italy, dating back to the 1950s or 1960s.This piece perfectly embodies the collectible \"Brutalist\" design movement of the era. The artisan masterfully contrasted a highly polished, smooth interior basin against a dramatic, chiseled raw \"rock-edge\" exterior. The stone is a gorgeous, translucent butterscotch/honey-yellow hue laced with complex, dramatic brown and cream veining that catches the light beautifully.Features two smoothly integrated cigar/cigarette rests along the rim. While originally intended as a tobacco accessory, its substantial weight and striking sculptural texture make it highly versatile for modern interiors. It works beautifully as a desk catchall, a jewelry dish, or a standalone statement piece on a mid-century modern credenza
