Original 1965 AP Wirephoto press photo of Malcolm X.Dramatic and rare portrait image (i have not seen before) was taken in Rochester on February 16, and used in The Rochester Chronicle) in published reports of the assassination (which was of all the more interest to Rochester as Malcolm X had just been there days earlier). On February 16, 1965, Malcolm X spoke at Corn Hill Methodist Church in Rochester. It was one of his last public appearances outside New York City, five days before he was killed at the Audubon Ballroom in Harlem. The talk came two days after his family home in Queens was firebombed. He told the audience that the attack was a sign of the danger he was in, and by most accounts he spoke openly about expecting to be killed. He had broken with the Nation of Islam the year before and was building his own organizations, including the Organization of Afro-American Unity. The caption reads:): RU2) ROCHESTER, N.Y.
