This is afantastic lot of Newspaper / Magazines called YANK, and they offer a look atWWII from the people who lived it. Yankwas published for active service people, and it was issued weekly by the BranchOfficer Information and Education Division of the Army. At its peak, it provided 21 different editionsin 17 different locations or regions and had a circulation of 2 million to 2.5million. This was not distributed to thepublic. Instead, it was by servicepeople for service people. The editorialstaff, writers, and photographers were all enlisted military personnel. Officers did not provide editorial guidance;they were merely administrators.
Thispublication kept soldiers informed, providing war reporting, GI life, soldierinterviews, and news from home (including the latest from favorite sportingteams; one issue in this lot features Jackie Robinson). All issues alsoincluded a pinup girl. One of the issuesin this particular lot features Jane Russell. This lot also features an issue published onVE Day. One cover includes a strikingimage of a flight nurse.
All 8 issues measuresthe same 14 1/8 inches long by 10 ½ inches wide and they are folded in half.
These Yanksare fragile, but the content can’t be beaten. They are still absolutely readable. The lot is a historical treasure looking backat WWII through the eyes of those who fought for freedom. It’s also a look back at WWII-era life athome. Perfect for any history or WWIIbuff!
