Product Description
Exquisite Wajima Nuri Black Lacquer Square Tray (Shihōbon) by Yamamoto Seikodo
This is a premium square lacquerware tray (Shihōbon), an authentic piece of Wajima Nuri (輪島塗), Japan\'s most prestigious lacquerware tradition from Ishikawa Prefecture. The tray is crafted by the renowned Yamamoto Seikodo (山元清巧堂), whose lineage is celebrated for exceptional craftsmanship.
The tray features a mirror-like, high-gloss black Urushi (漆) finish that exemplifies the \"true lacquer\" technique of Wajima. Its form is a classic Shihō (four-sided) design with elegantly sloped sides and a flat, pristine central surface. Wajima lacquer is famous for its durability and the use of ji-no-ko (fine diatomaceous earth) in the base layers, resulting in a finish that is both incredibly tough and silky to the touch.
Ideally sized for serving sweets (wagashi) or tea utensils in the formal Tea Ceremony (Chadō), this tray is a masterpiece of Japanese functional art. It comes complete with its original signed wooden storage box (Tomobako) and a yellow protective cloth, ensuring its authenticity and provenance.
Important Note: The product listing includes the lacquer square tray, the signed wooden box, and the yellow cloth only. The tea whisk visible in one of the images is NOT included with your purchase.
