Offered is an original Japanese Order of the Sacred Treasure (瑞宝章), 5th Class, an important Imperial Japanese decoration awarded for long and meritorious service.
This attractive decoration features the characteristic blue central medallion, red enamel/jewel details and radiating rays, suspended from the original pale blue ribbon with orange stripes.
The Order of the Sacred Treasure was established in 1888 and is one of Japan's principal orders. Its design incorporates symbols representing ancient Imperial treasures.

Historical Background
The Order of the Sacred Treasure was established in 1888 and was traditionally awarded for long and meritorious service. The decoration's design incorporates the Yata Mirror and Yasakani Jewel symbolism.
The 5th Class example documented by the Australian War Memorial is a silver decoration with the characteristic pale grey/blue ribbon carrying two orange stripes.
