Size: approx. 4 1/4 x 6 1/2 in (10.8 x 16.5 cm), photo mounted on thick card stock
A studio portrait of two young women posed in front of a painted forest backdrop. The standing woman wears a white polka-dot blouse with a high lace collar and decorative ruffle trim, a belt with a metal buckle and a long dark skirt, and rests her hand on a small pedestal table covered with a crocheted lace cloth. The seated woman wears a dark blouse with fine pleats and a high collar, a butterfly brooch, hoop earrings and a long dark skirt with ruffled cuffs. The studio floor is decorated with foliage. The mount has a printed "CABINET-PORTRAIT" ribbon banner in green with a gilt central cartouche.
The back has a handwritten ink date in Russian: "1903, May 26" (Old Style calendar).
CONDITION
Original antique photograph, over 120 years old. Please note:
- Noticeable emulsion loss and surface abrasion, showing as white speckled patches, mostly on the dark dresses and in parts of the background (see close-up photos).
- Scattered white specks, fine scratches and light surface grime across the image.
- The faces of both women are clear and well preserved.
- The gilt cartouche on the mount is heavily worn and no studio name is readable.
- The mount edges and corners are worn and rounded, with small chips and nicks.
- The back is toned, with water stain marks near the top edge, age spots and small dark spots.
- There is a small chip on the top edge of the back and a small rust-colored mark at one bottom corner.
- Faint old pencil marks are visible on the back.
- There is paper residue along one side edge of the back, likely from an old album.
- The card is intact, with no tears or missing pieces of the photo.
