The first production L-1049 Constellation made its maiden flight on July 14, 1951. The Constellation was Lockheed\'s response to the successful Douglas DC-6. The aircraft was also produced for both the United States Navy as the WV/R7V and the United States Air Force as the C-121, for transport, electronics, and airborne early warning and control aircraft. A total of 856 Constellations of various models were manufactured. There are, unfortunately, only a few airworthy Constellations left today.
Northwest Airlines was a major airline in the United States. The airline was founded on 06 September 1926 and was named Northwest Airways. It commenced operations in October of that year. In April of 1934 the airline flew as Northwest Airlines, in July of 1947 as Northwest Orient Airlines, and in October of 1986 back to Northwest Airlines. Northwest had its headquarters in Eagan, Minnesota which was close to the Minneapolis/St. Paul International Airport (MSP). In October of 2008, Northwest was merged with Delta Airlines. At the time of the merger, Northwest had 309 aircraft in service. The majority of the aircraft changed to the Delta Airlines livery after the merger.
During the 1950\'s, Northwest had four Lockheed L-1049G Constellations in service from 1955 to 1958.This L-1049G Constellation with registration number N5175V was delivered to Northwest on 12 February 1955. It flew with Northwest until 31 August 1957, when it was sold to Linea Aerea Venezolana (LAV), a Venezuelan airline. It ended its service with California Airmotive Corporation with registration N9748Z in December of 1962 where it was ultimately scrapped (how very, very sad). This beautiful EXTREMELY RARE Hobby Master 1:200 scale diecast reproduction of Northwest\'s L-1049G Constellation is a highly detailed model.
