Heavy Metal: Soft Ware – The Continuing Adventures of Druuna – 1992
One of the stranger and more visually spectacular corners of the Heavy Metal universe: Soft Ware, featuring the continuing adventures of Druuna, the iconic science-fiction heroine created by Italian artist Paolo Eleuteri Serpieri.
Published in 1992, this oversized Heavy Metal special combines the European adult-comics sensibility that made the magazine famous with an extraordinary wraparound painted cover: Druuna sprawled across a biomechanical industrial landscape populated by bizarre miniature creatures, machinery and assorted things that clearly should not be crawling around unsupervised.
The artwork continues uninterrupted onto the back cover, making the complete wraparound image a major part of the appeal.
