Heavy Metal Magazine — November 1993 — Schultheiss / Vince’s “Eden”
A particularly dark and striking issue from Heavy Metal\'s early-1990s period, dated November 1993, with a superb painted fantasy/horror cover depicting an armored skeletal figure looming behind an ethereal white-haired woman.
Across the masthead:
“SCHULTHEISS! VINCE\'S ‘EDEN’!”
Inside is the familiar international mixture that made Heavy Metal unlike virtually anything else on the American newsstand: European comics, science fiction, fantasy, horror and illustration presented for an adult audience.
The back cover is almost as useful for dating the era as the front. It carries a full-page house advertisement for:
Heavy Metal Presents: Soft Ware
Featuring Druuna in Serpieri\'s “Carnivora,” plus work by Arno, Prado and Altuna. The advertisement offers individual issues by mail from Heavy Metal\'s then-address at 584 Broadway, New York — an excellent bit of original Heavy Metal publishing ephemera preserved exactly where it appeared.
