Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, Hardcover SlipcaseGift Edition, Bloomsbury, Jonny Duddle Artwork, First Edition First Printing
Educational Decrees, a blood quill, and a woman in a pinkcardigan who is scarier than any Death Eater. Also the year Harry finally stopsbeing alone about it.
Introduction
This isthe Bloomsbury gift edition of Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, andthe distinction matters. A gift edition is not a trade hardcover with a nicerjacket. It is a separately produced object: gold foiled covers, a foiled clothslipcase made for this volume alone, and new line art by Jonny Duddle on thecase itself. The print runs are correspondingly small.
JonnyDuddle became the British face of Harry Potter in 2014, when Bloomsburycommissioned him to reimagine the covers for a new generation of readers. Hisapproach was warmer and more character-driven than the editions before it,painting scenes with depth and populating them rather than isolating a singleobject, and the result has become the version a great many readers now picturewhen they think of the books.
This copyis a first edition, second printing, with the print line reading 3 5 7 9 10 8 64 2. Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix was first printed in thisedition in May 2017, and a photograph of the print run page is included so theprinting can be verified.
