Fabric Options
1. Natural Indigo-Dyed Cotton
Handwoven cotton dyed using a traditional indigo vat. The fabric is repeatedly dipped into the dye, removed, and exposed to air so the blue color gradually develops through oxidation. Multiple dyeing cycles create a deep indigo shade with natural variations across the fabric.
2. Yam-Dyed Brown Cotton
Handwoven cotton dyed with củ nâu, a tannin-rich tuber traditionally used by communities in Vietnam to produce earthy brown and reddish-brown shades. The final color may vary depending on the dye bath, water, number of dyeing cycles, and characteristics of each fabric roll.
3. Undyed Natural Cotton
Handwoven cotton in its original, uncolored state. This option retains the natural off-white tone and texture of the cotton fiber. It is suitable for use as-is or for natural dyeing, textile experiments, sewing, and other craft projects.
From Cotton Plant to Handwoven Fabric
The fabric is made through a series of traditional processes practiced by ethnic communities in the mountainous regions of Vietnam.
Growing and harvesting
Cotton is grown in upland fields. After approximately five to six months, the cotton bolls open and are harvested by hand, then dried before processing.
Removing the seeds
The cotton is passed through a traditional tool to separate the seeds from the soft fiber.
Fluffing the cotton
A cotton bow is used to loosen the fibers, remove remaining debris, and prepare the cotton for spinning.
Spinning
The loose cotton is spun into yarn using a hand-operated spindle or spinning wheel. This stage requires careful control to produce yarn with suitable strength and consistency.
Sizing the yarn
The yarn may be treated with a rice- or starch-based sizing solution. This strengthens the yarn and helps reduce breakage during weaving.
Preparing the loom
The yarn is arranged and tensioned on a traditional wooden loom. Setting up the warp is one of the most time-consuming stages and directly affects the structure of the finished fabric.
Handweaving
The fabric is woven by hand. Depending on its length and weave, completing one piece may take several days or weeks.
Washing
After weaving, the cloth is washed to remove sizing and other residues. The undyed fabric may then be kept in its natural state or prepared for plant dyeing.
Traditional Indigo-Dyeing Process
Indigo leaves are soaked and fermented. The liquid is stirred and oxidized, then allowed to settle and filtered to produce indigo paste.
The indigo paste is added to a dye vat with traditional ingredients such as wood ash water and lime. The vat is maintained for several days until it reaches the proper condition for dyeing.
The fabric is dipped into the vat, gently wrung out, and exposed to air. As the indigo oxidizes, the color changes and becomes blue. This cycle is repeated many times to build a deeper shade. Some very dark traditional fabrics may require up to 90–100 dipping and oxidation cycles.
In some local practices, indigo-dyed fabric receives a final treatment with củ nâu and tree bark to deepen the color and create a darker blue-black appearance.
After dyeing, the fabric is washed, dried in the shade, and repeatedly beaten, rubbed, or softened by hand.

Hand-dyed colors may vary between batches and may not be completely uniform throughout the roll.
The undyed fabric has a natural off-white shade rather than a factory-bleached white.
Plant-dyed fabrics may release some excess color during the first few washes.
Actual colors may appear slightly different depending on lighting and screen settings.
Please allow a manual measurement variation of approximately ±2 cm in width.
Wash separately in cold water with a mild detergent. Dry in the shade and avoid bleach.
