This is an original German charity badge, or "tinnie," from the Third Reich period. It was issued as a token of appreciation for donations to the "Mother and Child" relief efforts, which were part of the larger annual Winter Relief fundraising campaign.

Design and Material:
The badge is rectangular with rounded corners and is made from a molded, cream-colored plastic or composition material, which was common for these mass-produced charity items. The front features a high-relief image of a mother sitting by a baby in a cradle. Below this scene is a two-line inscription that reads: "KÄMPFT GEGEN DIE NOT / SCHÜTZT MUTTER U. KIND". The reverse has an embedded metal safety-pin style fastener.
Translation and Historical Significance:
The slogan, "Kämpft gegen die Not, Schützt Mutter u. Kind," translates to "Fight against hardship, Protect mother and child."
This tinnie is directly associated with the Winterhilfswerk (WHW), or Winter Relief of the German People. The WHW was the Nazi Party's official annual charity drive, managed by the National Socialist People's Welfare (Nationalsozialistische Volkswohlfahrt or NSV) organization. While it did provide essential food, clothing, and fuel to needy Germans, it was also a massive propaganda instrument used to promote the idea of the Volksgemeinschaft (national community) and demonstrate the party's concern for its people.
This specific badge supported the "Mother and Child" program (Hilfswerk Mutter und Kind), an NSV initiative focused on promoting motherhood and a high birthrate in line with Nazi ideology. These inexpensive but ubiquitous tinnies were given to millions of citizens in exchange for donations, serving as a constant, visible reminder of one's contribution to the national cause.
