Arbor vitae, or thuja, came from the leafy tops of a northern evergreen. In the era of this label, a customer could bring a prescription to a neighborhood druggist and receive a preparation identified on a label like this one. Today, the combination of the named botanical extract, identifiable New Hampshire pharmacy, and surviving paper label tells a far richer story than an unmarked medicine bottle.
