PRODUCT DESCRIPTION
This colorful and diverse group of201 Japanese postcards were collected in the 1940s by a U.S. Navy Sailor while in Japan during WWII and stationed there afterward. This seaman found Japanese postcards very interesting and thus started acquiring all different types, themes, and places. He then held the collection for more than 70 years, before passing it on. Most of the postcards are unused. A few of the postcards are duplicates. It appears there are various printing methods, from lithography, to collotypes, to RPPCs.
A number of these vintage postcards are just beautiful, with delicate images of Japanese culture. There are even a few of the original postcard shopping bags when the postcards were bought at a local store. There is also one postcard booklet, containing several postcards.
A great rarely offered collection for the Japanese postcard collector and/or Japanese historian with many different cities and tourist locations, everyday life images, Geishas, and also some interesting military-related themes. The postcards typically measure 3-1/2 x 5-1/2 inches in size.
