A fantastic and unusual complete set of 16 vintage 1960s Japanese Batman and Robin menko cards, featuring artwork inspired by the unique Japanese manga interpretation of Batman. This is a full set.
These cards are especially interesting because the scenes reflect the distinctive world of Japanese Bat-Manga, the Japanese Batman manga created by Jiro Kuwata during the Batman craze of the 1960s. Published in Japan from 1966 to 1967, the manga gave Batman and Robin a very different visual style and brought them into adventures featuring a colorful cast of villains and unusual threats. The artwork is now celebrated by collectors interested in the history of Batman in Japan.
The fronts feature vivid, comic-book-style illustrations of Batman and Robin in action, battling villains and facing a variety of dangers. The bold colors, dramatic poses, and expressive artwork give these cards a very different look from American Batman trading cards of the same era. The reverse sides feature numbered game-card designs with playing-card symbols, Japanese text, and illustrated military and science-fiction imagery.
An excellent addition to a collection of vintage Batman memorabilia, Japanese manga, DC Comics collectibles, or unusual international superhero cards. These are a particularly appealing piece of the fascinating crossover between American comic-book characters and Japanese pop culture.
