PRODUCT DESCRIPTION Chashaku Japanese Bamboo Tea Scoop Yuzan Kissho Daitokuji Fujita Kando w/Box Brand: Yuzan · Model: Kissho About This Item A chashaku is the slender bamboo scoop used to measure powdered matcha in the Japanese tea ceremony. Each one is shaved by hand from a single length of bamboo, so no two are identical, and the maker gives it a poetic name (mei) that is written on the wooden box it travels in.This scoop was made by Yuzan and carries the name Kissho, meaning good fortune. The accompanying wooden box is inscribed by Fujita Kando of Daitokuji, the Rinzai Zen temple complex in Kyoto that has stood at the centre of Japanese tea culture for centuries. An inscription by a Daitokuji priest is the detail collectors look for, and it is what separates a display piece from a working tea utensil with provenance. It measures approximately 18.8 cm and is ready to use at a tea gathering or to display as it is. Condition Pre-owned. No noticeable scratches or stains. The bamboo is clean and the inscribed wooden box is intact. ★ Overall condition is very good. ★ No cracks, chips or repairs are noted on the scoop. ★ The inscribed wooden box (tomobako) is included.
