Gallop's Island is an historic island in Boston Harbor. During the Civil War it was the training and mustering-in camp for thousands of volunteers.
An Original Civil War manuscript Muster & Descriptive Roll issued at "The Draft Rendezvous Galloup's" Island, Boston Harbor," October 21, 1864 for Volunteer Recruits, a detachment, namingSergt Wiliam H Moore for the 29th Massachusetts Infantry, and 6 officers of the 11th Massachusetts and 9th Maine Volunteers, reporting they are physically fit and able to perform the duties of a soldier.and approved by Order of" Colonel John Hendrickson, 18th VRC at the " Draft Rendevous Galloup's Island., "B.H Mass." The 32 x 10" ptd/ink Roll is inscribed at the top " Muster and Descriptive Roll of William H Moore Volunteer recruit Co K. 29th Mass." With folds, minor age stains and edge wear, VG Condition Overall. Comes w service info. Sergeant William H Moore served October 1864 to late 1865 with Company K, 29th Massachusetts. Comes w service info. From the papers of CAptain John Milton Deane, 29th Massachusetts Infantry.
