Antique Pennsylvania area woven coverlet, likely mid 19th century, featuring a distinctive repeating pattern of floral sprays, urns, leaves and botanical motifs in red, green and ivory/cream.
The coverlet measures approximately 82" x 92", including fringe, and is shown on a queen-size bed to demonstrate its size. This coverlet has a center seam and fringe on three sides,
and is in good overall condition. There are no noticeably worn areas or holes, and has no noticeable odors. The fringe is double looped and there are a couple of fringe threads which are longer, as noted in photos. There is no fringe at the top, red/green fringe on the sides, and cream/beige fringe at the bottom. It also appears to me that there was a small repair made at the top hem area of the coverlet where the two seams join, noted in photos. There are also two small stains of unknown origin noted in the photos. I am not attributing this coverlet to a particular weaver, and it is unsigned. The Pennsylvania-area attribution and approximate dating are based on its construction, coloration, dimensions and decorative style, which are consistent with documented Pennsylvania coverlets of the mid-19th century. It has not been professionally dated or attributed to a particular weaver or area, but it has been in our family, who are from the Pennsylvania area. The coverlet weighs almost 6 lbs.
