Antique World War One British Army Pioneer Flexible Folding Trench Chain Saw Kit
Authentic British military issue folding trench saw (officially designated Saw, Folding) used by Pioneer regiments and Royal Engineers during the First World War (1914 to 1918) for constructing entrenchments, clearing timber, and field engineering.
Kit Includes:
• Flexible Saw Blade: Articulated carbon steel link construction with aggressive double cutting teeth.
• Handles: Two turned hardwood handles fitted with threaded brass connector sleeves that screw directly onto the chain eyelets.
• Winding Spool: Original two-piece hardwood storage block with buckled leather retaining strap.
• Carrying Pouch: Original military field canvas scabbard with brass closure buckle and reinforced leather base.
Condition Details:
• Saw Blade: Outstanding preserved antique condition. Steel links are clean with no rust or pitting, teeth remain very sharp, and articulation is smooth throughout. Shows minimal indication of field use.
• Handles and Spool: Hardwood handles and spool are solid and complete with no structural cracks. Brass threads are clean and turn smoothly.
• Canvas Pouch and Leather: Poor condition on the pouch leather. The lower leather cup reinforcement has deteriorated and blown out at the bottom seam as shown in photos. The leather retaining strap on the wooden block has surface flaking and age brittleness. Canvas body remains structurally sound.
A rare and complete Great War military engineering tool display piece. Please examine all photographs for close-up views of the condition and dimensions.
