Antique Victorian Tintype Photograph – Bearded Gentleman – Ornate Brass Mat – Civil War Era Style – Circa 1850s–1870s
A fascinating piece of early photographic history! This antique Victorian-era portrait features an unidentified seated gentleman with a full beard, wearing a dark formal suit and bow tie.
The photograph appears to be an original tintype, with the image on a thin metal plate beneath protective glass. The gentleman\'s clothing, hairstyle, and elaborate photographic presentation suggest a mid-19th-century origin, possibly dating to the American Civil War era.
The portrait is surrounded by an exceptionally decorative gold-tone brass mat featuring embossed floral scrollwork, textured detailing, and ornamental corner designs. An additional brass preserver surrounds the photographic assembly, creating the beautiful layered appearance characteristic of early cased photographs.
The surviving case features a pink velvet-like interior border and an embossed black exterior decorated with elaborate Victorian floral and geometric patterns, with remnants of gold-colored detailing.
