Antique Victorian Pink Transferware 14" "Blossom" Bowl, Hanley England c.1886:
$40.00

An exceptional piece of late-Victorian English ceramic history. This is a massive, authentic master wash basin bowl manufactured by Whittaker, Heath & Co. at the Upper Hanley Works in Staffordshire, England. Because this specific pottery operated for only a brief window (circa 1886–1892), pieces bearing this exact maker's mark are quite uncommon.
The bowl features the beautifully detailed, romantic "Blossom" pattern—an all-over pink transferware design showcasing dense clusters of delicate floral blossoms against a crisp white semi-porcelain background.
Markings & Historical DetailsThis particular basin features an incredible array of factory markings on the underside, making it highly desirable for serious transferware collectors:
Base Stamp: Features the complete, matching underglaze pink manufacturer's mark reading: "Semi-Porcelain / W H & Co / Blossom / Hanley / England" enclosed in a classic Victorian compass-and-shield motif.
Impressed Mark: Features an authentic impressed size "5" on the underside base, denoting its factory classification as a full-sized master basin.
Workman's Mark: Features a distinct, hand-stamped circular workman's tally mark just below the main transfer backstamp, identifying the specific Victorian factory artisan who decorated the piece.
Cobalt Test Mark: Features a tiny blue cobalt oxide dot on the base, historically used by the kiln master to verify that the firing temperature and glaze vitrification were perfect.
Dimensions
Diameter: 14.5 inches (across the top rim)
Height: Approximately 5 inches tall
Condition Report
This antique master basin is in perfect, pristine condition. It is a remarkable survivor with absolutely no chips, hairline cracks, flea bites, staining, or repairs. The pink transferware pattern is sharp and vibrant, and the clear glaze remains beautifully glossy. Pristine examples of this age and scale are incredibly difficult to find. Please review all photos carefully as they form an essential part of the description.
Shipping & Packaging
Due to the large size, flawless condition, and fragile nature of this antique semi-porcelain basin, it will be meticulously double-boxed and securely packed with heavy-duty bubble wrap to ensure safe transit. Ships via calculated shipping based on your zip code location.
