This item is being sold explicitly as an antique \"Study Quilt,\" restoration project, or historical text display piece due to age-related backing wear:Front Top: The pieced quilt top is in magnificent antique condition as far as colors go. The colors remain incredibly rich, dark, and beautiful. There are areas with material degradation but the front is beautiful even with areas of material issues and fraying.
Backing (Shattered Silk): The dark blue striped backing fabric suffers from severe, extensive historic \"shattering\"—a common chemical breakdown inherent to weighted silks from the Victorian era. The backing fabric is brittle and splitting away in large geometric segments, exposing the soft cream-colored wool batting underneath.
Stability: The hand-quilting stitches remain completely secure and intact, holding the structure together despite the shredded backing layer.CARE NOTE: Do NOT machine wash or wet clean this textile. It will be carefully packed with archival tissue support to protect the fragile silk fibers during shipping. Sold exactly AS-IS as a marvelous historical reference or display piece.
