Offered is an intriguing old metal pocket box, possibly originally intended for snuff, tobacco, or other small personal items.
This unusual piece features a canted-corner rectangular (elongated octagonal) shape, shallow dished construction, a metal barrel hinge, and a distinctive pivoting metal tab or iron-based metal construction (exact alloy unverified)

The construction resembles early metal snuff and personal-effects boxes, including Georgian and Victorian-period examples. Similar octagonal steel snuff boxes are documented in museum collections dating from the 18th and 19th centuries.
However, the precise age, country of origin, and original purpose of this example have not been authenticated. It is being sold as an old collectible metal box, possibly a snuff box.
Condition:
Used antique/vintage condition, with extensive surface oxidation, finish wear, discoloration, scratching, and age-related patina throughout.
The interior exhibits similar oxidation and surface wear. The hinge and closure hardware are present. It moves and latches well.
The box has not been polished or restored. Its existing aged surface has been preserved.
