Presented is a beautiful Japanese full oban-size woodblock print/book spread by the renowned Meiji-period artist Kitao Masayoshi (1764 - 1824).

The print depicts various occupations during the Edo period, specifically at the end of the 18th and the beginning of the 19th century. The illustrations serve as a visual encyclopedia of daily labor and craftsmanship during that time. Some of the activities visible include:

Umbrella Making: A craftsman assembling a traditional oil-paper umbrella.
Textile Work: Dyeing or stretching fabric (visible in the lower right).
Barrel Making (Coopering): A worker fitting hoops onto a large wooden tub or barrel.
Pottery/Ceramics: Artisans shaping clay or managing kilns.
Food Preparation: Specifically, the processing of grains or seasonal goods
Fan Making, Lantern Making, Stone Carving

Hand-colored woodblock prints from a bound volume. These books were popular as both educational guides and artistic collections, celebrating the diligence of the common people (shōnin) and artisans (shokunin).

Masayoshi was famous for his ryakuga-en (garden of cursive drawings) style, characterized by simple, expressive brushstrokes and a soft, pastel color palette. This specific layout, featuring vignettes in circular and rectangular frames on a blue or pale ground, is typical of his later work in the early 19th century.

The print was made using the Japanese woodblock technique during the artist's lifetime.
