Pleased to present an antique John Finzer & Brothers Cast Iron Tobacco Cutter from FIVE BROTHERS TOBACCO WORKS, LOUISVILLE, KENTUCKY (1866). This company was the largest tobacco factory in Louisville at the time, dating to the late 1800s. These lever-operated devices were typically found in general stores and used to cut pressed tobacco slabs for customers before pre-cut tobacco became common. What makes this piece a standout from other cutters is the hand-fitted silver handle & silver decorative \'arch cover\'. \"FIVE BRO\'S TOBACCO W\'KS. \" is embossed on the arched part of the cutter. The company was acquired by American Tobacco Company in the early 20th century, making this a very rare find.
Estate Sale find from an incredible home filled with many antiques & collections, wonderful pieces. Condition is Used/Pre-Owned in very good antique shape, showing minor worn areas due to normal age wear, worn paint, surface rust in blade area, nothing serious (see pictures as part of description). Could benefit from a good cleaning (this has not been oiled or washed it will look much better when wiped down), we are not restorers nor conservators and prefer to leave as found. Many prefer to leave as-is to reveal full-history of a piece. We leave others to decide, works great & makes a great addition to any fine Tobaccianacollection.
