RARE VINTAGE/ANTIQUE 5-PIECE PEWTER MEASURING SET — DUTCH/EUROPEAN METRIC MEASURES
Beautiful graduated set of five dark gray cast pewter/tin liquid measures, each with its own handle and capacity marking.
The set includes:
* 2 deciliter
* 1 deciliter
* 1/2 deciliter
* 2 centiliter
* 1 centiliter
Each measure is individually marked with its capacity on the handle.
The vessels also have multiple small stamped verification marks around the upper portion of the body/rim area. These appear consistent with the verification marks commonly found on older European/Dutch pewter measuring vessels, which were used to indicate inspection/verification of standardized measures.
The largest measure has approximately 10 of these small marks.
MARKINGS
The bottom of the measures bears a distinctive mark consisting of a winged figure/angel holding or blowing a trumpet, with the initials “LB” beneath it.
I have not positively identified the maker represented by this particular LB mark, so I am intentionally not attributing it to a specific pewterer. Photos of the mark are included so collectors and researchers can examine it.
This makes the set especially interesting for collectors of antique pewter, Dutch/European measures, metrological objects, and pewter maker’s marks.
CONDITION
Overall very good vintage/antique condition with expected signs of age and use.
There are some minor scratches/surface marks and a couple of small nicks/chips. These are shown as clearly as possible in the photographs.
The pieces have not been polished or aggressively refinished, so they retain their aged dark gray appearance.
Please examine all photographs carefully; the photos are considered part of the description.
PLEASE NOTE
These are being sold as a vintage/antique collectible measuring set. I am not representing them as modern food-use measuring equipment.
The exact maker and age of the LB mark have not been definitively established. The markings themselves are genuine features of the pieces and are shown prominently in the photos.
A very unusual opportunity to acquire a complete graduated five-piece pewter measure set with multiple verification marks and an unidentified LB winged/trumpet mark.
