"Our Navy" — Dr. Miles Medical Co. Advertising Booklet, c. 1907–1909
An original turn-of-the-century advertising premium from the Dr. Miles Medical Company of Elkhart, Indiana. The booklet presents itself as an illustrated survey of the modern United States Navy — halftone photographs of battleships, torpedo-boat destroyers, and an early submarine running on the surface, with rosters of named vessels and their tonnage and speed — while interleaving full-page advertisements for Dr. Miles' Nervine, Anti-Pain Pills, and Nerve & Liver Pills.
The fleet content dates the piece to the Great White Fleet era. The advertising content is a vivid window into pre-FDA American medicine, including a notable page, "How to Cure the Drug Habit," recommending Dr. Miles' remedies as a morphine-withdrawal regimen. The back wrapper carries the imprint of the distributing druggist, H.A. Blackmer of New Bedford, Massachusetts, with a customer testimonial portrait.
Format: Softcover, color chromolithographed wrappers, approx. 32 pages, roughly 7 x 5.5 in.
Condition: Good for age. Color wrappers intact and bright; edge chipping and short tears to wrapper and interior leaves; a torn corner affecting two Navy pages; missing paper at the lower edge of some leaves; toning, soiling, and light creasing. Text fully legible. Genuine antique artifact, not a reproduction. Please review all photographs.
Shipping: Packed flat with rigid backing in a stay-flat mailer. Combined shipping available on multiple ephemera purchases.
